- The test is from 5.10 pm to 7.10 pm on Oct 22nd at DH3000 (during our usual lecture).
- No aids, electronic devices are allowed during the test.
- The test contains 6 structured problems based on material discussed until 10th October.
- Please review the following concepts.
- First integrals and conserved energy in physical systems. (No Physics knowledge is assumed. All equations will be given. Only mathematical ideas will be tested.)
- Existence and uniqueness of solutions, maximal interval of existence and Picard iteration.
- Linear systems - matrix exponential, fundamental matrix solutions, Liouville's formula, canonical systems, solving general systems using canonical systems and phase portraits.
- Nonlinear systems - linearization, linearized stability (stability of fixed points), stable, unstable manifolds and (local) phase portraits.
- As an exam preparation, go over the suggested exercises (specially the ones in green) for each week, the homework problems sets and the solutions posted.
- Also, go over the notes I have posted for each week including the one for the first week: Chapter 1 of Robinson's book.
