Continuing the Conversation

Teaching observation is most meaningful when it is ongoing, voluntary, and grounded in collegial relationships. The ideas and tools in this guide are intended to support reflection, dialogue, and professional learning over time—not to prescribe a single way of observing teaching.

You may find it helpful to revisit different sections of the guide as your teaching contexts evolve, adapt the tools to fit your needs, or explore observation in collaboration with colleagues. Many instructors begin by inviting a trusted peer into their classroom, experimenting with one observation tool, or using reflective prompts to guide a conversation about teaching.

Teaching observation also becomes more powerful when it connects to broader conversations about teaching and learning across departments, programs, and institutions.
