Virtual Mental Wellness Fair (Oct 7)
Organized by the Health & Wellness Centre and the Office of Student Experience & Wellbeing, representatives from across UTSC and the broader Scarborough Community joined the Mental Wellness Fair on October 7th. Many representatives contributed to the Fair to provide students with tools and information about Mental Wellness and support services on campus. Mindful Eating with the UTSC Nutritional Team:

Learn about mindful eating and to tips on how to succeed at practicing it in your daily lives. We share what mindful eating is, the benefits of taking the time to eat and discuss hunger cues as an indication of hunger or fullness. We also provide a link to a fun Kahoot game you can try at home with friends, roommates or family.

The Effects of Colouring with the Medical Education Initiative Organization:

In light of Mental Wellness Month, The Medical Education Initiative Organization (MEIO) would like to discuss about the effects of colouring, origami, and other de-stressing activities on mental health. During this presentation, students will have the opportunity to learn about a series of scientific studies that support how engaging in various forms of art can help reduce stress/anxiety, enhance mindfulness, and relax the brain. Students are also encouraged to colour on various online colouring sheets as they listen to this presentation!

Flattening the Mental Health Curve with the Psychological Health Society:

During this pandemic, we have had multiple things to worry about. First, it was the fear of contracting the virus and now it's academic stress because our ways of learning have changed. This constant stress that we are carrying on our backs is increasing our anxiety level drastically. So now it’s time to change our habits and practices, it’s time to flatten the mental health curve! This presentation gives out information that will make students be aware of their anxiety. Along with that, there are amazing tips that will help the students transition into this academic year efficiently. The exciting part of this session is the relaxation techniques that are delivered towards the end that students can incorporate into their daily lives and provides helpful resources for students who are in crisis.
