How to use this page: You can upload your own video walkthrough of how your course - it can include both the technical elements (detailing course navigation but can also touch on things like your assessment strategy. It is pretty analogous to what you would do on your first day of class. The videos can be conversational, approachable, and production value does not have to be perfect. This is a great time to introduce yourself to your student and let them get to know you a little bit.

Example (Recording of a live welcome session)

This is a recording of the Welcome Webinar for APS1005 by Prof. Daniel Frances. It is shared here as an example welcome session and is for your reference only. It was offered to students as a live session, the week before the course began. The goal of the session was to introduce everyone to Bb Collaborate (the webinar tool used in the course) and to review course elements like:

    1. Quick Bb Collaborate tutorial that emphasizes how the tool will be used in this particular course
      1. Includes elements like hand raising, using microphone/webcams, when chat questions would be answered, etc.
      2. Introduction to polling tool
      3. How to ask questions during the webinars
    2. Icebreaker Activity: Use the whiteboard to draw where you'll be taking the course from (on a world map)
    3. Course Overview including major topics
    4. Review of technologies used in the course
      1. Hardware Requirements (including Internet requirements)
      2. Review of technology used for the final exam
    5. How to ask questions about course content
    6. Review of the schedule
    7. Expectations around attendance and participation for the synchronous course sessions
    8. Expectations around collaboration (when to collaborate and when not to)
    9. Assignment Protocols
